What We Believe

What We Believe

First Love Missions was birthed directly from the move of the Holy Spirit for the glorification of God through maintaining our FIRST LOVE for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  As such, we believe in the following absolute truths:

THE BIBLE: We believe the BIBLE is the fully inspired and infallible word of God.We believe that the Bible contains the mind, heart and will of God, the state of man and the only way to salvation. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be saved and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you. The Bible is the traveler’s road map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldiers sword and the Christian's charter. In it paradise is restored, heaven is opened and the gates of hell are disclosed. Christ,
the designer and creator, is its grand subject and the Glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart and guide the feet. Study it slowly, frequently and prayerfully, at all times be guided by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:15). It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of Glory and a river of pleasure. It is given to you in life, will be opened at the time of judgment and be remembered forever. As the breathed Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16), it involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor and will condemn all who trifle with its contents (Revelation 22:18-19).

THE TRINITY: We believe that the Godhead is three persons in one benevolent FATHER, SON and HOLY SPIRIT -  and that these three persons make up the one true God
. Further, we believe that each person of the Trinity is omnipresent (in all places at the same time), omnipotent (all-ruling authority over all creation) and omniscient (possesses all knowledge and perceives all things). From creation (Genesis 1:1-3) on, God, acting in three persons, causes all things to work together for the good of those that love him and called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

THE SAVIOR: We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah and creator of all things as the Word in John 1. We believe in His virgin birth (Matthew 1:18-25),
humanity, sinless life and sacrifice through the offering of His body to be broken, for our sins, til death (Hebrews 2:9). We believe in His bodily resurrection (Luke 24) and ascension to the right hand of God the Father as literal facts (Acts 1:9). We believe that He intercedes for us from heaven and that He will return to retrieve His bride, the church. We believe that when Christ ascended, He gave full authority and power to those who believe in Him to carry on His earthly ministry, as written in Mark 16:17 and Matthew 28:19-20.

SALVATION AND REPENTANCE: We know, as it is written in John 14:6, Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me". The only way to salvation and eternal life in Heaven is through relationship with Jesus Christ, believing that He is your Lord and Savior and that He died for your sins, was resurrected and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. Salvation is by the free gift of grace from God, made possible by the atoning work of Christ on the cross. Salvation is received by grace through faith and there is absolutely nothing that we can do to "earn" it. We believe that Jesus Christ is our only salvation and that without Him guiding our lives, we are totally and completely lost. We believe, as it is written in Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions" that forgiveness is not an option but a necessity as part of repentance and salvation. Further, we believe, as it is written in Acts 3:19, "Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times (plural) of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" that repentance of sins is not a one-time action but an ongoing process by which we are continuously cleansed. We believe, as it is written in Luke 13:3, that without repentance there can be no true salvation.

BAPTISM IN WATER AND THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe in the scripturally established first century pattern of (1) salvation (2) baptism in water and (3) baptism in the Holy the Spirit.  We believe that all believers should seek both baptisms as soon as possible after the experience of salvation as both baptisms seal the believer in Christ. We believe that water baptism, through submersion, signifies our death, burial and resurrection with and in Christ and through the baptism of the Holy Spirit we receive promised gifts of power that enables us to do the work of the Kingdom.

We further believe that anyone who is to be involved in ministry must follow the command of Christ to wait for 'the helper' and not begin his ministry until which time he receives the baptism in the Holy Spirit - as foretold in Isaiah 40:31 and commanded by Jesus in Acts 1:4-5. According to scripture, the baptism in the Spirit amounts to God's stamp of approval on ministry - as it is written in Matthew 3:11, the baptism in the Spirit is the baptism in Christ.
GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that all gifts are fully operational today - as nowhere in scripture does it state the contrary. - and that, as it is written in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, these gifts of the Holy Spirit include:  word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith,  healing, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits (discernment), tongues and the interpretation of tongues. We believe that love is the cornerstone on which all other gifts are based and without which we can achieve nothing. This is made concrete as it is written in John 15:5 "...for apart from me you can do nothing".

DIVINE HEALING & DELIVERANCE: We believe in the anointing with oil and laying on of hands, in Jesus name, for the healing of the sick and casting out demonic influences. We believe that any Christian can become demonized but can never be demon possessed. (Galatians 5:17; 2 Peter 2:20; Acts 8:9-24). (The confusion comes from a poor translation of the original Greek word "daimonizomai" which in no way can be interpreted a 'possessed' but rather 'to be under the influence of' a demon.)

THE FIVE-FOLD MINISTRY: We believe, according to Ephesians 4:11, that Christ has set in His church APOSTLES, PROPHETS, EVANGELISTS, PASTORS, and TEACHERS, operating in the manifold gifts of the Holy Spirit and that all of these offices are fully operational today as nowhere in scripture does it state the contrary.

THE GREAT COMMISSION: We believe, as it is written in Matthew 28:19, that it is every disciples’ obligation to "go and make more disciples" - that this commission from Jesus demands action - the fundamental aspect of faith.

PRAYER: We believe there is a great need for corporate intercessory prayer for all concerned with the kingdom of God: for the entire body and its individual membership; for world political and business leaders; for the promised land of Israel, Jerusalem and the salvation of the Jewish people; for the return of wonder at the kingdom and all its glory and for miracles, signs and wonders of all forms.

REVIVAL: We believe that there is a need for a great awakening in the church to return to the basic precepts upon which it was founded - Pentecost and the leading of the Holy Spirit. We also believe that the body of Christ must be prepared for fast-approaching challenges and persecutions. Therefore we believe in equipping the body and utilizing the gifts of power graciously bestowed on us.

The bridegroom cometh, don't just sit there!

May The Blood of Jesus cover, bless & protect you!
