Prophecies Fulfilled by the Birth of Jesus

“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.” (Daniel 9:25)
Daniel wrote this prophecy, given by the angel Gabriel, in Babylonian exile in the 6th century B.C. while also studying prophecies already recorded by other Hebrew prophets like Jeremiah. (Daniel 9:2)
Gabriel also participated in its fulfillment when he announced to Miriam (Mary) that she was to give birth to the Holy One of Israel (Luke 1:26–33).
With the birth of Yeshua, the following Biblical prophesies were fulfilled:
Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14—Isaiah prophesied that a virgin or pure young woman will give birth to the Promised One.
Fulfilled: Luke 1:26–31
Prophecy: Isaiah 9:6—Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would come as a baby; Jesus is described by several names—“Wonderful, Counselor,” “The mighty God,” “The Father of Everlasting,” “The Prince of Peace.”
Fulfilled: Luke 2:1–20
Prophecy: Numbers 24:17—Balaam predicts that the Messiah will descend from the house of Jacob—“I see him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth.”
Fulfilled: Matthew 1:2–16
Prophecy: Isaiah 9:7—The Messiah shall be of the house of David. Yosef (Joseph) was of the line of David, as was Miriam (Mary).
Fulfilled: Luke 3:23–38 tracks Jesus's lineage on Joseph’s side; Matthew 1:1–16 tracks Mary side.
Prophecy: Micah 5:2—Micah prophesied that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem.
Fulfilled: Luke 2:4–7.
Prophecy: Genesis 49:10—He would be a member of the tribe of Judah—“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between His feet, until tribute comes to Him; and to Him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”
Fulfilled: Matthew 1:2.
Prophecy: Malachi 3:1—Jesus would enter the Temple. This is important because no one would be able to enter the Temple again after it was destroyed in AD 70, about 40 years after Jesus's death.
Fulfilled: Luke 2:25–27 tells us that Jesus was brought as an infant to the Temple to be consecrated, and Simeon is there waiting His arrival. And daily, Jesus taught at the Temple when He was in Jerusalem. (Luke 19:47)
Other Prophecies: Jesus would live a sinless life, die on a Roman execution stake, be raised from the dead, ascend into heaven, and sit at the right hand of God: Psalm 22:16; Psalm 16:10; Isaiah 53:10–11; Psalm 68:18; Psalm 110:1.
Fulfilled: 1 Peter 2:21–22; Luke 23:33; Acts 2:25–32; Acts 1:9; Hebrews 1:3.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Praise God, He is here!
