All too often lately I'm hearing 'Grace alone' and "we
are not under law" being taught primarily on Christian radio
programs. I'd like to remind folks that
Jesus Christ made the strongly worded statement in Matthew 5:18 "For truly
I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest
letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from
the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished." (AMP)
The folks that ignore this verse also push the
"once-saved-always-saved" (OSAS) platform - that once we are saved we
can never loose salvation. That is also non-scriptural and, in fact,
anti-Christ. The best scriptural example I can give to disprove this stance is
Hebrews 6:4-8 which states emphatically that it is possible to loose salvation
and never be eligible for repentance again! Also, Mark 3:29 clearly states that
"but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will NEVER be forgiven;
they are guilty of an ETERNAL SIN.”
Again, it is possible to permanently loose salvation by blaspheming
(discrediting, scoffing, denounce or ban) the Holy Spirit! This verse actually
establishes a NEW Testament law! But I digress. The point is that Jesus did not
do away with any of God's laws - in two short verses we can see that He
actually added to them!
While we ARE saved by Grace, we must abide by the moral law
established in the Old Testament as well - and we are subject to them until
every prophecy given in the OT is fulfilled and the earth is destroyed - in other words, until the end of time, as we know it. This
doesn't mean that we must adhere to dietary law, circumcision, etc - those were
done away with at the Jerusalem Council -
but we MUST adhere to moral law - from this we can never 'escape' - and
if we break them there will be consequences.
May the blood of Jesus cover, bless & protect you!
