"When you pray for someone, remember this"

This was the message from the Father at the end of my most recent 4AM visitation. Sometimes when we pray for someone we just go through the motions. We are obedient to God because we stop to pray for that person alongside the road – but sometimes our hearts aren’t truly in it. The act of obedience becomes a task to complete instead of the incredibly joyous part of our ministry that it should be – and the results of our prayers will suffer for it.

A similar message last year had totally changed how I looked at obedience.  I was driving to a large church to make a cold call on what I thought to be a huge potential sale when I passed a girl walking to a bus stop. She had obvious physical issues, which I learned was cerebral palsy. God instructed me to turn around and pray for her, which I did. It took me almost ten minutes to find a parking spot close to where she was and, as I was hurrying over to where she was, I was praying that the bus hadn’t come and gone. I got to her, told her of God’s instructions to me, asked what her condition was, if she was saved and if it was ok for me to pray for her. I anointed her with oil, prayed for her, blessed her and was on my way. I got to the church, only to discover that they were already clients of ours. A wasted trip. As I was walking to my car the Lord asked me this question, “When is obedience not enough?” I thought ‘What do you mean Lord? I took the time, I turned around and went back to pray for her, just like you told me’ The answer came immediately, “Obedience is not enough when you have your own agenda”  It hit me like a ton of bricks. When I realized what I had done, all I could do was cry. There was so much more that I felt I could have done for that girl - just spending another 5 minutes with her to let her know how much God loves her, for one. He then instructed me that when I was doing His work that it had to be my entire focus – not just something that I had to do to be ‘obedient’. My entire approach to ministry changed after that day.

This past visitation made it clear that when we pray for someone, we must not only do it with 100% attention, we must do it with the soaking love of God in our heart – we must try with all our hearts to personify to others the radiant love that He gives to us when we experience His presence. This will entirely change the way we pray for one another – and put us more in a state of congruency with the will of God. And if we are congruent with the will of God, 1 John 5:14-15 tells us that we have everything that we pray for.

A Call to Prayer Regarding the Middle East (Malcolm Hedding)

“Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.” Jeremiah 33:23-24

As revolt and chaos spreads through the Middle East it turns out that the only stable Democracy in the region is Israel and indeed that the Apartheid State of today is not Israel but the Arab nations around her. These nations are imploding with discontent as people take to the streets protesting their lack of freedoms and their subjugation under the hands of thugs, murderers, despots and leaders who have made themselves rich on the backs of their people!
Israel by contrast is a shining example of freedom, the rule of law, an independent judiciary and the freedom of the press and yet the educational institutions of our world have decided to boycott Israeli academics and to annually hold what is called, “Israel Apartheid Week” and the European Union is now moving to boycott Israeli products made in Judea and Samaria. Nothing is more hypocritical, and indeed shameful, as this. While totalitarian dictators, throughout the Arab world, suppressed their people and even murdered them in huge numbers as they protested on the streets of their capitals these people decided to focus on Israel and condemn her. Sadly, many Church movements have also joined themselves to this hypocrisy. This is all part of a sinister desire to discredit Israel, delegitimize Israel and in the end dismantle Israel. Anti-Semitism is at work here for sure. It is unbridled and unashamed and sadly attracts many followers.
We, who have been “washed” by the scriptures, recognize this evil root that again and again seeks to find fertile soil where it can flourish and grow. Thankfully, we stand in its way and we will stand alongside Israel in her endless struggle to exist in a dark world. Jesus said that, “This nation (generation) would not pass away until all things are fulfilled” (Matthew 24:34) and the Prophet Jeremiah declared that as long as the sun, moon and stars are in the firmament just so long will Israel exist as a nation before God. (Jeremiah 31:35-36)
The struggle will be a challenging and difficult one but we will stay the course because we have a God in Heaven who watches over Israel day and night (Psalm 121:4) and Who invites us into a place of dedicated prayer and intercession on her behalf. (Isaiah 62:6-7) In the end He will be glorified in the nations in this growing contest as He will arise and defend His people in a way that we never thought possible (Zechariah 12:1-9). Let us therefore ignore the anti-Israel antagonists and be faithful to God in this respect.
