DEBKAfile says: “Thursday night, Nov. 29, the UN General Assembly granted Palestine non-member observer status within 1967 borders by a majority vote. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tried dismissing this upgrade as meaningless – awarding its initiator Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) nothing more than a small town sheriff’s badge. But the fact remains that this status and those borders are on the books, no matter which Palestinian government is in power, Abbas’s Fatah which rules the West Bank from Ramallah or the extremist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. And Israel now has a new headache, especially if the Palestinian entity seeks membership of the International War Crimes Court in The Hague…. It is to this entity that the UN General Assembly, which itself is losing relevance as a player in international affairs, has voted to extend a measure of legitimacy on the world stage…. Nothing will change but the real hub of Palestinian affairs has moved from Ramallah to Gaza City."
God says: “I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed. … I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am Yahweh, declares the Sovereign Yahweh, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
“‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.” (Genesis 26: 3 - 4; Ezekiel 36: 23 – 28)
The Jerusalem Connection says: Well the resolution upgrading the Palestinians' status to a nonmember observer state at the United Nations was approved by a more than two-thirds majority of the 193-member world body -- a vote of 138-9, with 41 abstentions. So what does that mean? Actually, very little regarding the facts on the ground. The Palestinians remain deeply divided as to who is their actual leader, Ismail Haniya in Gaza or Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah. And that is a can of vicious worms in itself. If there is a silver lining to this gesture by the U.N. it is that all former peace plans are now null and void. Why? Because at the heart of all of these former peace plans has been the commitment to a negotiated settlement by both sides. That is gone as of now. As a result we join the growing voices in Israel that are advocating the annexation of Judea and Samaria (the West bank). It should have been done in 1967 but God has given Israel another chance. That sounds like something our God would do, doesn’t it?
